A Telepathic Interview with Paranormal YA Author Natasha Larry

Natasha Larry was born and is still alive. She has an M.A. in American History, making her a professional cynic. Apart from writing, she is a self-proclaimed comic book nerd and urban fantasy junkie. Darwin’s Children is her first novel length work of fiction.

1. Do you have a favorite place to write?

My favorite place to write is at the desk my father built for me. He’s always supported my writing and the desk is lovely.  I also enjoy writing outside whenever the weather is warm and there is a nice breeze to go with it.

2. What do you love most about writing?

Hmm, that’s a hard question. There are so many things. My answer is going to sound pretty dramatic, so get ready.  What I love most about writing is that it makes me feel I can leave this world any time I choose. All I need is pen and paper, or in my case… Sharpie markers and paper. That’s pretty cool.  I also love when readers talk to me about my characters as if they are real. I love that because my characters are very real to me, so it’s nice to know they feel the same way.

3. What is the hardest and easiest part of the writing process for you?

The hardest part of the writing process is self-editing. It frustrates me because I always miss things, then I go back and do the face palm thing. I’ve finally accepted that you have to have other people edit and proof read your work. Maybe there are writers out there that don’t miss things, but I doubt it.  Another hard part of writing is the actual typing. I have carpal tunnel and I have to wear those brace things, which I hate. However, if I try to type without them my fingers go numb.  The easiest part of the writing process is coming up with fresh ideas. It’s also the most fun part.

4. What five words best sum up your personality? 

Crazy. Passionate. Dreamer. Compassionate. Friendly.

5. Other than writing, what else do you love to do?

I love doing anything with my daughter. She recently joined a t-ball team so we’ve been having fun with that. I also love reading and collecting comic books and action figures. Did I mention I’m a nerd? Like all writers, I love to read. 

6. Describe your perfect day.

Hmm, another hard one  it would probably start with breakfast in bed. Then, I get a call from Stan Lee, who needs my input on a new superhero… then I die because Stan Lee knows who I am. Scratch the death. After the call from Stan, I spend a few hours playing in the park with my kid. I come home, have dinner with my family. Spend a few hours writing, and fall asleep as soon as I close my eyes. That would be sweeeet. 

7. Do you have a writing schedule?

I try to write every day. Other than that, not really. Although I do try to schedule writing time when I know my kid will be at Grandma’s. 

8. What are your past, current, and/or next projects?

I currently have two published works via Penumbra Publishing. Here are few blurbs to enjoy:

Things quickly turn deadly for the vampires, but the Dey-Vah Guard fairies refuse to acknowledge there’s an imbalance in the nature they protect. As the danger gets ever closer to Jaycie and her family, the race is on to find answers before a secret plot can destroy them all. 

The third book in the series, Common Descent is set to be published sometime in July of 2012. In the meantime, I’m working on the fourth book
