Up in Smoke with a Flammulated Owl

Flammulated: having flame shaped markings – used when describing the plumage of certain birds

I was leafing through the PBS Signals magazine when I saw this word to describe a type of owl. I had to go to the Merriam-Webster on-line dictionary to find out what it meant.

What a great word! Our little guy is in the middle left, staring out with flame-flicked eyes.
