Kedge Your Bets

Kedge: to move a ship by means of a line attached to a small anchor dropped at the distance and in the direction desired

Cape May ferryI like this word – kedge. It makes me think of slow, but steady progress. Like in writing. Having time to think and aim your writing in the direction you want to go. Instead of hedging your bets, which allows an escape, kedge your bets. Commit to one destination and go full on.

***Not to be confused with kedgeree, a smoked fish.
